The Matter of the Mandrake is not signed to the book, although is accompanied by a signed letter from the author asking if Tom "can interest your movie friends" in the book.
All notes were inscribed to Tom and Pat Hutchinson - Tom Hutchinson was a British critic and author, known for his interviews and friendships with numerous celebrity authors and other figures of the late 20th century, while Pat Hutchinson was an artist and illustrator. In the inscription to The Lonely Voyage , John Harris thanks Pat "for the lettering", suggesting she had an input in the design of the dust wrapper. An excellent collection with a brilliant association. All are first editions, apart from Ivor Novello, which is a first trade edition. (9) From the collection of Tom Hutchinson, a British critic and author, who spent his career interviewing and reviewing the writings and filmography of numerous celebrities of the 20th century. As well as this, Hutchinson authored a number of books himself, notably including a memoir of his close friend Rod Steiger and a study of the life of Marilyn Monroe. Along with his wife, the illustrator Pat Hutchinson, Tom mingled with many well-known figures of the time. Bound in the publisher's original cloth, with one in the original paperback wraps. Externally, generally very good, with a few marks and shelf wear. Slight loss to dust wrapper of The Lonely Voyage, with a few marks and edgewear to remaining wraps. Internally, firmly bound to most volumes, with some leaves strained to Ivor Novello. Pages age toned to a few volumes, although largely remain bright and clean.
